Dr. Steven J. Cyr M.D., F.A.A.O.S
Owner of The Orthopaedic & Spine Institute
One of my God-given strengths is empathy. When I talk to someone who is hurting especially people who have had failed surgery in the past or years of pain, I really work hard to get rid of that pain. I try to deliver the care I would for my family. Everyone knows someone with a spine problem, everyone knows someone who’s had a spine surgery. Many of those are unsuccessful.
I think about each person’s condition: “what if this was my mom, or my brother, or my father talking to me. How would I answer those questions?” Because of that, I’ve had outcomes that I feel really blessed. I feel like these surgeries are sometimes very complicated. Some people have had 12 failed surgeries before they get here.
I had a procedure back in March of this year that replaced three lower back discs and did a spinal fusion. I used to have numbing and shooting in my legs. I don’t have that anymore. Thanks to God and Dr. Cyr’s able hands I am 100% improved.
I lived practically in bed. I couldn’t stand, I couldn’t sit, I couldn’t walk. When my 91-year old grandmother got out the car faster than me…I knew at that point I needed to see someone. After my surgery, I immediately felt relief. I didn’t feel the pain that I had prior. Before I knew it I was walking around the surgical unit.
There was always the pain and it seemed like no one really cared. That’s why of course I came here, and it was totally different. They cared that I was in pain and that I needed help.
A lot of times people come here desperate for help but concerned they’re not going to get it. There’s no one willing to listen, there’s no one that’s going to do a good job even if they do something. So, I try to put their mind at ease, because I literally am here to serve them and to do everything I can. I do that from the perspective as if they were my family.
